In these days of worldly uncertainty, there is always that ONE to whom we can turn for comfort, clarity, refuge! Psalm 91 is one of the most often cited books in the Bible! It shows the way to that peace beyond all understanding which we are all seeking at this time!
In this world, where Truth is hard to find, or even identify once we have found it, there is One to whom we turn for all Truth. God IS Truth. God IS Principle. God IS Law – never changing, never swayed by appearances or whim. This weekend, we honor those who have fallen in the service of our freedom. So, how do the two tie together? Truth IS freedom, freeing us from the bondage of error, of appearances! As we memorialize those who have died, we can memorialize, at the same time, those qualities which compelled them to step into the role of true heroes: courage, dedication, love for freedom, faith in that higher calling, honor and more. In LIVING these qualities, ourselves, we honor them in the highest manner possible.
For centuries, dance has been used as a medium of expression of a myriad of emotions; praise being but one! On a spiritual level, dance represents movement! Where there is movement, there is always and must always be, change! This movement bridges between the finite and the infinite! The activity of God – in and through and as us – uniting body and soul with the Allness in which we live and move and have our being – is a dance! This week, we are invited to surrender to that dance of Spirit, within, allowing it to change us, to raise us to new heights, to open us to new understanding and move us to new expressions of our divinity!
Enthusiasm puts the LIFE into life; into everything we do. If we are not doing our inner work, during this time of Lent, in a spirit of enthusiasm, we are cheating ourselves out of its many gifts for us. We can generate all of the enthusiasm we need – it exists, already, right inside of us, waiting to come forth as zeal, joy, tenacity, excitement, passion and a feeling of purpose. When we release it into whatever we are doing that very thing takes on a new, higher meaning and a greater importance! The universe is here to support and sustain us, in accordance with our willingness to live in harmony with it. Our enthusiasm opens that door through which the Universe–God pours all the good we desire, in overflowing abundance. The level of our enthusiasm determines how widely we are opening that door! This week, we are invited to declare, as did Charles Fillmore, at age 94, “I fairly sizzle with zeal and enthusiasm and spring forth with a mighty faith to do the things that ought to be done by me.”
On this, our second Sunday in Lent, we are invited to become aware of our attitudes. The word Lent can be used as an acronym for Let’s Eliminate Negative Thinking! For most people, attitudes are based on past life experiences. However, when we learn to be consciously aware that there is One Life, One Power and One Substance, we find life taking on a whole new meaning; a freshness and a freedom of which we had been unaware — and ALL of it right inside of us! Just as the seed, buried in the ground, leaves its shell, and sprouts up through the earth, turning toward the sunlight, we too, can leave behind the old stories; wrongs, hurts, failures, and turn towards the light that forever indwells us! Then, we will know spring and its newness of life throughout the whole the year! Let’s take this time to awaken from our winter slumber, to rise and blossom!
Lent means spring! Spring means new life, springing forth from the seemingly dead that appeared as real throughout the winter. The 40 days of Lent are based on the belief in the power of certain numbers; 40 being representative of foursquare, or a firm foundation. What does this all mean? It means that we are, during this season – and always, actually – being given the invitation to rise above former limitations, to spring forth as the flower does through the melting snow, into new life, new consciousness! So, how are we to do this? Prayer! As we align ourselves, through prayer, with the Truth of our being, we are giving God in us a way to bless us in every area of our lives. Then, just as helium raises a balloon off the ground or the blades lift a helicopter, we will be raised above our present conditions to new heights of health, prosperity, love, wisdom, and all good. We are invited this morning to use the tools we have at hand to realign our thinking, reconnect with our own indwelling Christ Self, and remember the Truth of our Being: We are each the perfect child of God.
Much like the pilot of one of those huge commercial planes can do in inclement weather, love can take us up over the storm clouds of life! Love is the great harmonizer, it is a healer, actually changing our body chemistry! So, how do we access this power within?
The Hebrew word for love is “giving.” It is the giving of self and must take form as action. It is also the key ingredient of focus; we are actually loving that on which we place our focus, be it the beauty of nature or some past injury. Whichever, the power of love will multiply its manifestations in our life experiences. If we will but surrender to the power of God-Love, within us, it will pilot us to our soul’s desired destination surely, safely and joy-filled.
We have all accepted God as Unconditional Good! However, we are told, “Be ye therefore perfect even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” (Matt. 5:48) This is both an instruction AND a statement of Truth! There is an amazing, wondrous potential that indwells each and every one of us – the Truth of our being! However, to access that potential and to live it, we must first accept that it truly does exist, and then be willing to allow it to express in and through and as us, on a daily basis, in the manner and to the full extend for which we have come into the world! This will mean giving up our self-criticism, our judgments of others and resentments over past injuries. An amazing life awaits us! We are invited, today, to create it, to live it, to shine it! It is our birthright. It is our responsibility! It is our gift to ourselves and to the world!
We, our consciousness, is the inlet and the outlet of Spirit. It can be as a prism, allowing the glorious white Christ Light within shine through in all its many facets, or it can, through the holding onto unforgiveness, judgements, past hurts or negative memories, block the Christ Light, making of itself a dark prison. Divine Mind contains all wisdom – everything we could ever need – but it needs an outlet to reveal itself! We are here to be that outlet! WE stand at the switch! We are, indeed, the light of the world! This week, we are invited to let that light SHINE!
Mud is the “marriage” of water and soil. It is a material representation of the divine marriage of spirit and matter, Father & Mother God; it is the mother substance of all creation. One person sees a mess! Another sees a future bed of flowers and greenery. As with all of life how we “name” it, so will be our experience be. Each situation we are experiencing is an opportunity or a catastrophe, depending on how we name it–and the name we give it is our decision. We are not here to deny matter, but rather to bless it by bringing the divine idea of perfection into each and every experience. This week, we are invited to see, as from the eyes of God, all good, unconditional love, eternal life!
