In the celebration of Halloween (if you are one of the 157 million people who do), we use humor and ridicule to confront the power of death, which is our ultimate fear. We fear because we have forgotten who we are. Paul, in his first letter to the Corinthians 15:31, said, “I die daily.” The death of which he spoke is that of our limiting ideas and false concepts. Even when something good happens, something else must end in order to make room for the new condition. If we are to be truly alive, we must be willing to die daily to old ideas and beliefs.
