The idea of fatherhood is both personal and universal. Many of our ideas about God are based on our perceptions of our own fathers or father figures. H.B. Jeffery said this about fathers: “The father of a family is the servant of the whole family. He works for them, provides for them, cares for them — in word, serves them.” Though, to some, this may not be the picture of their earthly father, it DOES contain many of the attributes of our Heavenly Father! Sustenance, direction, protection, healing; these and more could be added. And, all of these attributes are born of Love. When we pray the Lord’s Prayer, we acknowledge God as our Father. In that one affirmation, we are also affirming our oneness with each other and Him, and our reliance on Him for every good thing needed to live a happy, healthy, peaceful and fulfilling life.

TRUTH believes in US! It knows our power, our greatness, our divinity! This week, we are invited to believe in ourselves – in the TRUTH of our being! The two most important days in our lives are, first, the day we are born and, second, the day we realize WHY we were born! We can live this Truth, or we can put on masks in an effort to live our own made-up illusions; not good enough, not smart enough, not….not….not…you get the idea. However, if we will pay attention, Truth teaches itself! It is all within us, waiting to be tapped. All of life’s “problems” are really spiritual opportunities, showing up as everyday problems! The ups and downs we experience in life are like training wheels! As we learn and grow in ability, we are writing our own Owner’s Manual, to which we can refer at any time! We write each chapter of our owner’s manual according to Truth or according to error. The choice is ours.
This weekend, we honor those who died in service of our Country, to keep us free. And, in so doing, we ask ourselves who and what are WE serving? Being emanations of God, we are hard-wired to give of self – to serve! So, again, who and what are we serving? Are we serving some ideology? Some group or affiliation? Perhaps it might be wise to remember that we can’t give what we don’t have. We should be, first and foremost, serving SELF! Not the small self, born of ego (belief in lack & limitation), but the Christ Self – that which wills for us, as us, the highest and best; unlimited possibilities! We should be serving TRUTH, noting that we are to judge by righteous judgement and not according to appearances! In this way – and only in this way -are we truly free!
Every experience in our lives is for one purpose; that being our Spiritual growth. However, in order to avail ourselves of that growth, we must first realize, and see, the opportunity in each circumstance, each occurrence, as it comes into our experience. This means being aware of the lens through which we are looking. If we are looking from our “Adamic self” lens, we are likely to regard ourselves as victims, whereas, if we are looking through the lens of our Christ Self, we will see the good behind each and every happening. Energy is neutral. It is WE who name each and everything we behold as good or bad, and give it whatever meaning it will have for us. This week, we are invited to polish our lenses.
Many of the Aramaic names for god, Adonai, Yahweh, El Shaddai, refer to the female, feeling, loving and creative aspects of God, Therefore, we, created in God’s image, also have these aspects within us. If we are to live our lives in the manner and to the full extent for which we have come into this world, we must honor this “Inner Mother.” To love another, we must first love ourselves; unconditionally, without reservation. This love, often referred to as Agape, will change us first, and then as it ripples out from us, will change the world. Happy Mother’s Day to ALL!
How high is high? “There are one-story intellects, two-story intellects and three-story intellects with skylights.” (Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.) We come to Truth to change ourselves! Oliver Wendell Holms JR. reminded us that, “A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” And, if we are to truly change our life experiences, it all begins in MIND. How high are we willing to aim our vision – our thoughts our imagination and our expectations? THIS is what will determine whether we remain on the ground floor or whether the light of Spirit will be able to enter, driving out all error.
This Sunday Unity Way Church celebrates its 65th anniversary, on property that once was a fig farm! Metaphysically, fig trees represent a living, thriving church and its teachings; the approximately 750 seeds within each fig being divine ideas. However, we are to remember that a church is not a building, but a people, each practicing and living Truth. Charles Fillmore, one of Unity’s co-founders is quoted as saying: Unity is a link in the great educational movement inaugurated by Jesus Christ; our objective is to discern the truth in Christianity and prove it. The truth that we teach is not new; neither do we claim special revelations or discovery of new religious principles. Our purpose is to help and teach mankind to use and prove the eternal Truth taught by the Master.”
Unity teachings are based on a metaphysical or transcendent interpretation of Truths we learn in the Bible. This morning, we are invited to take some of these higher ideas, higher ideals and make them part of our daily lives – make them ALL of our daily lives. There will be obstacles, but past them, there will be wonderful rewards. These obstacles are an important part of our path, if we learn to see them for what they are; stepping stones to even greater awareness of our divinity. We are here to BE the very presence of God, made manifest. But, we have to know it and we have to live it. Nobody can do it for us, nor should they. We have within us everything we need.
A spiritual/scientific theory, introduced by Teilhard De Chardin, the Omega Point is a speculation that everything in the universe is fated to spiral towards a final point of “divine” unification. In metaphysics, we already acknowledge oneness with the One, All-In-All. However, unless we are EXPERIENCING this oneness, as peace and harmony, health and prosperity, love and freedom, it is not “our truth.” Practical Christianity is where the rubber meets the road. If we wish to experience and enjoy the fruits of Spirit, we must live in harmony with its laws, consciously put our faith in It in the knowingness that Its Will is to live in and through an as us. Spirit is waiting only for us to say, “Yes!”
Jesus taught, “The kingdom of God is within you.” He promised that we would do the works that He did and even greater ones. He was speaking of Law! Shouldn’t we, then, be devoting our focus and our energies toward learning this Law and living in harmony with it? Charles Fillmore stated that “Man is I Am identified, charged by creative Mind with infinite potentiality but ‘unconscious’ of it.” Our job is to attain that consciousness, that we might remember our divinity, our perfection, our power as sons of the Most High. Otherwise, these things remain only potentialities within us. Jesus said, “My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.” (John 10:10) OUR purpose is to LIVE life in all its fullness, which we are invited to do, this week!
